A humble librarian Late Mr.Gangadhar Murshillin is not amongst us now. Let his soul rest in peace. My heart felt condolesces.

Friends it is heartening to know about the sudden demise of our Librarian friend Mr.Gangadhar Murshillin. Some news like this we come across are so unusual and untimely ... I just cant believe. Let God given all strenghth, courage and confidence to his family members to face his absence. He was a lovely person and humble and touchy librarian. His mark of humbleness and courtesy will be left on any one who came across him. Such a person he was. Let his soul rest in peace. My heart felt condolences.

Dear Members,

It is with profound remembrances that we inform you about the untimely
and sudden demise of Shri.Gangadhar Murshillin, 61 years, a committed
library and information professional. He passed away at 11.00am on 3rd
February 2011.

He was the Treasurer of BOSLA for two terms and had retired recently as
Library and Information Officer after serving IIT MUMBAi for over three
decades.

BOSLA had felicitated him on October 30, 2010 for his commendable
service to the profession where he was honoured in the BOSLA tradition
and was presented with a Citation. I have attached the copy of the
citation with this mail.

BOSLA deeply mourns his demise and pray God that may his soul rest in
peace.

C I T A T I O N

 

Shri. Gangadhar Murshillin was born on 23rd August, 1950 in Gadag, Karnataka. He completed his science graduation from Karnataka University, Dharwad. In the year 1974, he successfully completed B.Lib.Sc. degree from Karnataka University, Dharwad.

 

He started his career as Librarian for a short period of six months at Ayurveda College, Hubli. Later, he got an opportunity to serve in Dept. of Public Libraries, Govt. of Karnataka, Bengaluru as Techical Assistant.  He was in-charge of Rajajinagar Branch Library and South End Circle Public Library from May 1975 to December  1979, which were considered as biggest public libraries during those days. He took the leadership of around 700 daily wage employees working in the Public Libraries and fought against the government policies. This agitation helped all the daily wage employees to get regularized their service as permanent employees in the state government.

 

He joined Central Library, Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT), Mumbai as Library Assistant on 27th Dec., 1979. Since then, he worked in almost all sections of the library during his tenure. He always tried sincerely  to fulfill the information needs of the students, faculty and staff of IIT-Bombay.  While serving at IIT-B, he also completed Masters degree in Library Science (MLIS) from University of Madras, Chennai in the year 1986.  He has endeared himself  to all the colleagues during his accomplished career of 31 years.

 

Shri. Gangadhar G. Murshillin served as Treasurer of Bombay Science Librarians' Association (BOSLA)  for two terms and actively participated in all activities of BOSLA.

 

He was superannuated on 31st August 2010 as Library Information Officer after completing 31 years of service in Central Library of IIT-Bombay, Mumbai.

 

This citation is being presented to Shri. Gangadhar G. Murshillin in recognition to his service to the profession and to BOSLA on the occasion of 'TISS-IFLA-BOSLA Workshop on 'Academic and Research Perspectives in Libraries: Challenges and Concerns for Digital Libraries ' at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai on 30th October, 2010.

 

Chairman, Vice-Chairman and Executive members and all members of BOSLA wish him and his  family  a very happy, peaceful and purposeful post retirement life.
